Team Level of Leadership

Application of strategies to effectively lead change and facilitate collaboration and the empowerment of others

The most important skill which can be posed by the leader is maintaining and building teams and increasing their effectiveness. The team is the group or collaboration of people who come together in order to collect to pursue the common purpose. The results of the activities of team are often greater in comparison of results of individual efforts.

The composition of team and its purpose should be thought through. The leaders need to promote the team performance opportunities in order to facilitate collaboration and empower others. Everything including hiring individuals, salary determination, career paths construction and performance monitoring should be oriented towards the individual. The team member’s responsibility should be specifically set up and identified. Further the company should maintain high performance team who are clear about the purpose of their creation. The team leaders should control the activities and should promote the relationship development between the members. Further in order to facilitate collaboration the team leaders should maintain the flexibility and team productivity and should also recognize the colleague leader’s accomplishments. Additionally to effectively lead change the team should address both new and old issues.

The teams build social capital which brings together peoples to do the task which cannot be done through individual personals. They help in developing trust and allow creativity and shared relationships and expand the social network for the members of team (Mumford, et. al., 2007).

Relationship between power, leadership, ethics and values at team level of leadership

The teams are developed by the organization for using the talents and leadership skills and the multicultural and multidisciplinary background of their staff. They lighter the workload of the supervisor and increase the overall productivity. There is a relationship between the power, ethics, values and leadership at the team level of leadership.

Power defines the authority of persons for delegating the duties and responsibilities. It is generally defined as the ability of influencing others which can bring discipline in the service domain. On the other hand, ethics means the respect for the ethical values and believes. The leader should comprehend ethical values through focusing on rights and dignity of others. The leader choices are influenced greatly by moral development, for example while delivering the health care service it is important for the leaders to encourage professionals to value the rights and morality of patients (Lichtenstein & Plowman, 2009).

There has been a direct link between the power, leadership, values and ethics and all of these have impact on health care organization performance. The leadership concept requires appropriate power use so that the subordinates can help the leader in leading and directing the team efficiently. The leaders are needed to develop some abilities for influencing others so as to ensure that the health care practitioners are ethical while managing their responsibilities and roles. Additionally the focus should also be on shared value, community values and service value for encouraging the service provision.

As per the model the leaders should direct ht professionals to value the interest patients regarding enhancing the service dimension. It requires consideration on team dynamics in which all the members should be treated with respect and dignity. This is important for amending the team work performance. This leadership is about managing and leading the work as a complete team and not individually.

Application of strategies for effective change management with individuals and teams

As per the common definition, changes means making the things different. Changes require undergoing modification of processes and practices. The value based change hold major importance in the health care sector as it focus on consistent management of valuable aspect. For example, the value based is essential in the health care sector for providing appropriate services to patients and for protecting the patient’s interest.

The association of many people who come together for achieving the common goal is known as team although individual work differently as per their individual interest and goal. The changes need occur when the opportunities for transformation are finding by the health care organizations. Kotter suggested an eight step change model for suitably managing change. These eights steps are as follows:

  1. Increase urgency- there should be an urgency sense for change initially, so that the health care professionals can implement transformation
  2. Build the guiding team- the team should be developed which will guide the changes in the health care sector. This team should be build of health care practitioners and professionals.
  3. Get the right vision- there should a right vision for subsequent transformation while implementing change.
  4. Communication for buy in- the determined vision need proper communication to all the team members
  5. Empower action- the leaders in the health care sector should focus on removing obstacles by conducting processes appropriately.
  6. Create short term wins- the short term wins give an important idea about the transformation value.
  7. Don’t let up- the successful changes need management and development of new systems which can aid in regulation of changes (Jansen, et. al., 2009).
  8. Make it stick – the final step is the implementation of change in the corporate culture.

Principles for effective governance including team accountability

In the health care sector the effective governance is very essential for managing the services on international scale. As per the Australian institute for company directors, there are many principles which are needed to be maintained for fostering good governance. It is important for the managers to have a specific objective while working as team so that the work of team can be effectively managed. There should be proper accountability and integrity in teamwork as every member has different interest. The leader holds power in the team which is why he is responsible for working on building the people capacity. Effective governance not only enhances teamwork but at the same time increases the efficiency of service provision. Focusing on ethical values and employee engagement also lies in this domain and thus the leader is responsible for building up this aspect.
